Devious-Maids-Season-2-PromoThe Series Turns Controversy Into A Hit Show With Scandal, Romance, and Drama

Spicing up your Sunday night has never been easier since Devious Maids hit the small screen on the Lifetime network. The hit show kicked off its second season on April 20th and even though it is several episodes in (nine to be exact), it has been a whirlwind of non-stop scandal, romance, and of course, drama.

Despite all of its current success, strong viewership and loyal fan base (known as the Devious Army) it didn’t start well for this devilishly amazing show. For starters, the series was originally going to air on ABC, but the network didn’t green light the series after the pilot episode. As if that wasn’t enough, the show’s premise stirred up controversy because critics believed it would reinforce stereotypes and misrepresent the Latino community. Nevertheless, Devious Maids was picked up by Lifetime and has been doing well ever since.

The show follows the lives of five Latina maids working in the homes of the most powerful and wealthiest families in Beverly Hills. The first season introduced the main character Marisol, who disguises herself as a maid (although she’s a college professor) and tries to solve a mysterious murder that has left her son accused of the crime and jailed. Season 2 lets viewers see the other maids develop and introduces new characters and families with their own deep dark secrets.

Devious-Maids-Season-2-Cast

It’s so easy to get addicted to the series after watching just one episode and in case you haven’t already added the show to your Sunday night lineup, there are myriad reasons you’ll want to add it to your roster. Here are five:

  1. Devious Maids is the first ever show to have Latina actresses as the main characters. Ana Ortiz (Marisol), Edy Ganem (Valentina), Judy Reyes (Zoila), Daina Ramirez (Rosie), and Roselyn Sanchez (Carmen) do an incredible job portraying their roles. Viewers can easily relate to their unique back stories.
  2. Marc Cherry is the creator of Devious Maids and Eva Longoria is a Co-Executive Producer. Marc also created the hit show Desperate Housewives, which co-starred Longoria. When creating this show, he was inspired by a Mexican TV series Ellas son la Alegria del Hogar. With the scandal of a soap opera and the flare of a Latino show, it’s no wonder that this show leaves viewers wanting more.
  3. Along with the maids, the series also looks at the lives of their employers and how they are not always the perfect family, but actually dysfunctional on many levels.
  4. Each week the show will leave you waiting eagerly in anticipation. It’s the ultimate cliffhanger!
  5. And last, but not least, what would this show be without all of the hot leading men?

Bonus: Did we mention the fashion is to die for?
