London – There’s no limit to what one will do to guard their valuables, from high-tech security to armored vehicles. But on September 10, 2007, Harrods, a luxury retailer in London owned at the time by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al Fayed (father of Dodi Al Fayed who died in car accident with Lady Diana in 1997), did something unprecedented. They encased an Egyptian cobra with a pair of ruby, sapphire and diamond encrusted René Caovilla high-heel, strappy sandals.

I think this stunt was more for publicity than security, to kick off the launch of the Italian shoe collection, but it still garnered my attention – as if the lofty £62,000 ($120,000) price tag would not. To see video footage visit CNN.

It was definitely a ploy worthy of the ancient Pharaohs!
