San Francisco — Who doesn’t love sitting front-row center at a fashion show watching lithe models strut galantly down the runway in cool clothes. I know I jump at the opportunity and even more so if it benefits a good cause. The Beauty of Life Sickle Cell Awareness Charity Fashion Show, coordinated by Juanita Scott, a stylist and fashion show producer — is one such event. I recently caught up with Scott to discuss the show, the charity, and her mission for bringing the two together.

The Chic Spy: What inspired you to have a charity fashion show for Sickle Cell Anemia?
Juanita Scott: Sickle Cell Anemia has been affecting people of color for many years. My goal is to combine the two things that mean the most to me and present it to the public; fashion and Sickle Cell Anemia. Fashion is my passion but my sister is my heart. For 23 years of my life, I have been a carrier of the sickle cell trait. For 30 years my sister has been in and out of the hospital over a 100 times due to the Sickle Cell Anemia disease.

TCS: What is a least known fact about the Sickle Cell disease?
JS: Sickle Cell Anemia is not a well known disease but those who know about sickle cell generally dont know that this disease not only affect people whose ancestors come from Africa but also from the Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Turkey, and Italy; the Arabian Peninsula; India; and Spanish-speaking regions in South America, Central America, and parts of the Caribbean. This event is an important step towards educating the general public and raising additional funds for research and treatment.

TCS: What do guests have to look forward to at the fashion show?
JS: My guest should look forward to seeing great fashions and having a good time while giving back.
