GLOBAL — Edgy songstress Rihanna, who’s known for her silky ballads and rhythmic duos with the likes of Adam Levine, Justin Timberlake, and Eminem, is taking the fashion world by storm and setting style trends abound. She’s been the face of MAC Cosmetics with her RiRi Hearts Collection, she’s walked with supermodels in Chanel’s supermarket-themed runway show during Paris Fashion Week, she’s had a line of apparel with UK’s River Island, and she’s even bumped shoulders with Anna Wintour, sitting front row center at fashion shows. There’s no doubt, she’s a force to reckon with and it doesn’t stop there! Now Rihanna is being recognized for her impact on the fashion industry with the 2014 Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which she will receive June 2nd.
In the latest issue of Vogue magazine, the Barbadian beauty dishes on the role of fashion in her life: “It’s not all down to my voice. There’s people with way more talent than I when it comes to singing. Bigger voices. But people want to know who you are. Fashion is a clear indication, a way to express your attitude, your mood.”
Past recipients of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award include Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman and Iman.
