Haute Off the Press: Phi Succumbs To the Recession

The recession has taken another bite out of fashion. The most recent victim being Phi, founded in 2003 by Susan Dell.

Phi chief executive officer Julia Hansen told Women’s Wear Daily, “It’s a really challenging climate right now for luxury goods,” she said “There is not so much confidence in that market going forward.”

For spring 2010, Norwegian fashion designer and creative director Andreas Melbostad put a sophisticated twist on biker chic with a black and white palette that included slim leg suede pants that buckle and lace up the leg, strappy and banded brassiers and bustiers, as well as metal-encrusted jeans, studded blazers and a leather zipper jacket.

The Phi boutique in SOHO is slated to close at the end of next month, but fans of the brand will have one last chance to snap up a piece from the edgy label. Their pre-spring delivery arrived in stores this month.

Currently, the atmosphere for high-end brands is cloudy. Hopefully other designer labels will be able to ride out this stormy economic period — time will tell.

PAFW = Park Avenue Fashion Week
MIFW = Malaysia International Fashion Week
LNFW = Lakme Nepal Fashion Week

  2. hey, I have a question related to fashion.
Very often watching fashion shows I meet abbreviations like PAFW, MIFW or LNFW.
    What do they mean?
