Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of the University, welcomes guest to the 2010 Graduation Fashion Show and Awards Ceremony

San Francisco – The Academy of Art University is the only school that shows both seasons at New York Fashion Week. Each season, graduate students selected to show their collections travel to New York to put their finest creations on display for industry professionals, fashion insiders, celebrities and the media.

Just as elaborate is the graduation fashion show held each year in April at one of the Academy locations. This year it was held in a tent at Brannan. Inside the tent, seating was arranged stadium style with two sets of bleachers separated by a long white runway. At the end of the runway photographers were setup to snap shots of the looks as they came down the runway.

The show opened to a packed crowd including VIP guests and Academy President’s Awards recipients such as Elisa Palomino, womenswear designer and VP of Design at Diane von Fürstenberg; Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, founders of Opening Ceremony; and two members of The Antwerp SixWalter Van Beirendonck, menswear designer and Dirk Van Saene, artist and designer. Many of the VIP guests awarded students internships with their companies.

The fashion show kicked into gear to a backdrop of high-energy musical beats. It was pure pandemonium as the first model hit the runway. The collections presented were solo projects as well as collaborative efforts including BFA and MFA students from the fashion design, knitwear design, textile design, menswear design, industrial design, and fine art sculpture departments.

Here are few images of looks that graced the runway:
