“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” ~ Coco Chanel

Global – Who hasn’t been tempted to over-indulge when it comes to accessorizing a look? Strands of pearls around the neck, stacks of bangles on the wrist, a row of rings on the fingers; we’ve seen it often, too often actually. Like makeup, accessories are more flattering when done sparingly, unless jezebel is the look you’re going for. I assume not, so here are a few rules for adding flare to an ensemble rather than glare.
- Over-sized jewelry – Large designs can be statement-making, but best worn alone or with smaller pieces. Avoid sporting a large ring, huge flower pin, and over-sized bangle all in one outfit.
- Strands of necklaces – This look is not for everyone because it can add bulk. Try a max of three strands. For a vintage look, clasp the strands or chains with a cameo brooch.
- Rows of rings – More than two rings on BOTH hands combined is a bit garish. Wear a large cocktail ring and skip the extras or opt for a small band and something a bit more sparkly on the other hand.
- Multiple earrings – This look is so 80s and it is a look I am sure none of us want to see return anytime soon! For a standout look on your lobes, try platinum studs or chandelier teardrops for that big evening out on the town.
