NEW YORK — Every hipster and modern art aficionado alike within 50 miles of Manhattan, was in attendance at last night’s unveiling of the KESH X American Apparel Fall 2013 Limited Edition collection. Invites to this private event were much anticipated and hard to come by as was evidenced by the brimming crowd that quickly filled the American Apparel store on East Houston Street yesterday evening. In true AA fashion, the assortment of pieces available within the KESH collection were all stretchy spandex/cotton silhouettes that could be easily worn with one of the many bright color pop separates that the brand is known for producing.
With price points around $35 to $88, the 12 unique styles all feature some juxtaposition of the “Kesh Eye” print in a striking black and white contrast. The edgy simplicity is all the more reason that the collaboration with an artist like KESH makes perfect sense for American Apparel. Creative directors Iris Alonzo and Marsha Brady honed in on this young Brit, who works feverishly from her LA-based studio – commonly referred to as “The Cave” – to continually churn out works of art that pay homage to her signature approach to bold minimalism and graphic experimentation.
KESH initially garnered fame by selling her prints via a massive MySpace following five years ago, with art abilities that span every medium from fashion to music and digital media design. Merely 26-years-old, this young visionary has already dressed Kanye West, made music with The Coconut Twins, and designed an independent line for Topshop. The KESH X American Apparel Collection will be available in stores this weekend and all items can be purchased online while supplies last.
