Global — Winter is the season during which extra layers of clothing and warm fabrics must take precedence within our wardrobes and style choices. No matter what type of harsh winter weather you are battling, there is no reason for a chic fashionista to compromise her fashion sense. Contrary to popular belief, you can be quite fashionable while remaining prepared for rain and snow, all at once.

Tips to keep in mind when shopping for a winter coat:

Location
Winters in Southern California are entirely different from those in New York. You must take into account the area in which you live before choosing a winter coat. When rain is the main obstacle as opposed to the harsh cold, a lined raincoat may be more reliable and appropriate than a faux fur.

Fit
It is true that coats should be large enough so that certain layers can be worm underneath. However, your coat should not overpower your body, resulting in the loss of body shape in an abundance of unnecessary fabric.

Versatility
Try to choose coats that can be worn with varying outfits so that you can get the most out of the use of your coats. Neutral-colored coats including beige, grey, and white are as stylish and leave just as much of an impression as the brighter, print-inspired options.

  1. Yes brown and camel are perfect in winter! I personally believe that most colors are versatile and can transition easily from one season to the next. These colors would compliment a Coach purse well (assuming that it is in its original tan color). Have fun when shopping for coats and remember that you need one to reflect your personality just as much as you need an every day go-to coat. Happy winter shopping!

  2. Great article. I live in Arizona and the minimalist – DKNY jacket caught my eye. It is my mission to try to find one today. I wonder if they might come in other colors. Brown would work best with my Coach purse, or maybe even a camel — would these colors constitute as chic for winter weather? Or would you recommend any other options? A nice leather coat would be fun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated – Thank you Chic Spy.
