San Francisco — I attended the Sip & Shop Trunk Show hosted by online retailer Fashionistette.com and I was impressed by the array of designers the chic boutique carried, from Tracy Reese and Generra to William Rast and Black Halo. I recently caught up with the owner, Pamela Sukeforth, to talk about her store and current fashion trends.

The Chic Spy: When did you launch Fashionistette.com?
Pamela Sukeforth: Fall 2009.

TCS: How did you come up with such a unique name for the business?
PS: Thank you! I really like the name too. Fashionistette is someone who deeply enjoys fashion and looking good.

TCS: What inspired you to launch the online boutique?
PS: After working in corporate planning and buying for more than 15 years, I decided it was the right time to start my business and launch online to reach more people. This is my first experience working in ecommerce. I am fortunate to be a part of the San Francisco fashion community and be supported by local fashion bloggers to market my business.

TCS: How do you select items to carry in your online boutique?
PS: I attend LA Fashion Week and sometimes New York Fashion Week to see designer collections in their showrooms. Also, I attend CALA SF four times a year.

TCS: What is your background in fashion?
PS: I have more than 15 years of experience in fashion buying, planning, inventory management and ecommerce.

TCS: What has been the most challenging aspect of running an online boutique?
PS: Since I’m new to ecommerce the most challenging aspect of running an online business is SEO and web traffic.

TCS: What trend do you love for this season?
PS: Sheer fabrics like chiffon and georgette that grab attention without being too revealing.

TCS: What accessory can you not live without?
PS: Over the knee boots.

Fashionistette.com offers three tips for looking chic?

  1. When buying a little black dress that is chic go for a dress that flatters your shape and shows a little skin.
  2. For a night out, skinny jeans with sexy heels or tucked into boots are perfect.
  3. A leather jacket can transform a simple outfit into a chic and sophisticated look.
