GLOBAL — If you’re like me, you’ve never given much thought to the garb worn by football players. But I’ve recently discovered football helmets worth adding to your accessory arsenal, even if just for a collectible. On a recent mission I uncovered the ultimate in sports paraphernalia that fashion enthusiasts can really be excited about: Haute Couture helmets design by members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. In collaboration with Bloomingdale’s, 48 designers have created one-of-a-kind helmet designs that are up for auction and will benefit the NFL Foundation. From Betsey Johnson to Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia, there are a cornucopia of cool designs running the gamut from mini rosettes and Swarovski crystals to a panda bear head and New York City skyscrapers. Current bids range $248-$2,025.
