Today, Yves Saint Laurent, an iconic fashion designer dies at 71.

He was the epitome of haute couture and highly revered for his avant garde designs. Known for creating luxurious suiting for women, the French designer was fierce in his craft and his trademark cuts (fashion can be trademarked in France) were often mimicked by American designers such as Ralph Lauren. Before launching his epynomous line he worked for Christian Dior and when Dior died in 1957, he catapulted to fame as head of the house of Dior. Read more here.
