Global — Who doesn’t love wearing jeans? Whether you are short, tall, thin, shapely, young or old; jeans can be a wardrobe staple for a multitude of functions. But, when it comes to finding that perfect fit jean, nothing can be more troublesome. “Does my butt look big?”, “Are my hips too wide?”, “Do I have muffin top?” are a just a few of the quandaries that can plague us when searching for jeans that flatter our figure.

Inspired by the fashion mixer, jean+ology: find the perfect fit. it’s in your jeans. that was held last Sunday, here are a few tips to guide you when shopping for the perfect-fit jean.

Maximize Curves

If you have a lithe figure, you may find it difficult to find jeans that add curvess and give you a shapely derriere. The key here is to look for cuts that are form-fitting but have startegize pocket placement. The bottom of the pocket should hit no lower than the top of your thigh.

Try figure-hugging cuts that contour the derriere like skinny jeans.

Avoid baggy jeans that create a shapeless look and long or low pockets. If pockets are too low, it will give an appearance of a sagging or flat buttocks.

Minimize Curves

Full figure femmes crave jeans that accent the positive while downplaying the negative. This means minimizing hips and thighs.

Try jeans that are slimming; bootcut and classic silouhettes work best. Leg opening should be as wide as the thigh or a bit wider.

Avoid skinny-leg styles that give the hips a wider appearance.

Maximize Height

If you have a petite stature, your challenge is not wearing a jean that dwarfs you because the length is too long or the rise too high. Cuts that are jsut below the belly button will elongate ytour torso.

Try bootcut and skinny styles with high heels to give an appearance of longer legs.

Avoid capri or cropped styles that cut off height.

NOTE: If you are on the short side but curvy, avoid super tight skinny jeans because they will make you look shorter and wider in the middle. Wear a slimmer straight leg or classic cut in a dark wash.

Minimize Height

If you are a long legged lady, be happy, who wouldn’t die for lengthy gams? But, if you find you feel better unstating your height, avoid high-waisted jeans; this will emphasis the length of your torso and legs.

Try a bootcut or flared silouhette with a low waist to compact the appearnce of your body.

Avoid skinny jeans that may make your legs look like sticks if you are extremely thin.

More Tips

Go Dark. Choose a dark wash will give a slimmer appearance than lighter wash.

Keep it simple. Select styles with minimal accents or embellishments such as contrast stitching, decorative pockets, or excessive distressing. These can add volume to undesirable areas.

Easy on the fade. Opt for untreated designs. Treatments that make denim look worn, faded, or distressed draw attention to areas that shoul not be accentuated like knees, thighs, and the tummy area. Lines and discolorations in these areas can highlight problem areas and add volume to your figure.

Ignore trends. Look for cuts that flatter your figure rather than those that follow a current trend.
