NEW YORK — If you weren't there you should have been! Brazilian-born designer Layana Aguilar's first independent presentation at New York Fashion Week brought out numerous press and celebrities alike. The Moet flowed and the show went off without a hitch and succeeded in introducing those not previously familiar with the former Project Runway Season 11 star's work. Aguilar presented 10 pieces from her power-house collection and the models had a street-chic aesthetic as if they were awaiting their photo to be snapped by The Sartorialist or Garance Dore, who would find it quite hard to ignore these looks.
The makeup was bold but neutral with rich brown and wine hues. The lips popped and the brows were sculpted, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Karlo Karlo, who used NYX Cosmetics to achieve the beauty looks. Amid the clamoring press that flowed into the hallway of Four81 Gallery, we were able to catch a glimpse of the most talked about looks of the night as well as chat with the designer herself on her approach to creating this recent work. Inspired by the beautiful collection, it was easy to see myriad trends sure to be influenced from her designs.
