During New York Fashion Week, Marchesa unveiled a parade of frilly frocks with intricate and elaborate detailing from beaded bodices and tiered layers to satin bows and sheer lace. And don’t forget the vibrant hues — it’s a refreshing alternative to the structured lines and muted tones used in the menswear inspired designs so prevalent this season.
There was an unmistakable resemblance to the sari, the traditional dress of Indian women from the East. The colors were rich in shades like mandarine and raspberry.
Amidst the vibrancy, detailed beading and frilly silhouettes there were floor-length gowns, flowing full skirts and flirty thigh-grazing cocktail dresses.
Floor Length
The mandarine cap-sleeve floor length gown (above left) has a dropped bodice that extends down to a biased cut, beaded skirt. This look is sure to inspire a bevy of form-fitting, silhouette-enhancing frocks for spring.
The tiered layers and rows of vertical, beaded ruffles make this strapless ball gown (above right) extraordinary. Cascading layers create a spiraling effect and billowy shape. This look will surely usher in a kaleidoscope of candy-colored, ruffled dresses and tops.
Full Skirt
There is such a cultural vibe in the details of the black beaded full-skirted dress (above left) and the mustard-colored empire waist dress with full skirt and deep scoop neck (above right). It’s like handmade, silk Bombay scarves were used to create these pieces. The beaded bodices and hems have an ornate design, which give these dresses personality and swing.
The two-piece bell-sleeved jacket with sheer skirt (above center) is trés chic. The bow adds a sweet, whimsical touch and the vintage lace jacket makes a nice ecclectic companion to the contemporary bubble skirt.
Thigh Grazing
These cocktail dress are not only demure and feminine, but sleek too. The raspberry-hued strapless dress (above left) has beading on the top of the bodice with a straight silhouette, in contrast to the lacey sleeveless, deep V mini dress with a tiered ruffle hem (above right) — the satin sash tied in a bow adds a touch of girly.
