Bohemian is one of the many trends that stalked the runway for fall 2008. But, if you’re like me, the idea of sporting Bohemian-inspired looks evokes images of long suede vests, bell bottom jeans, oversized fringed bags, baggy tunics, and strappy Birkenstocks. At the idea of melding these into any fashionista’s wardrobe, all I can say is … um, no.
Then I thought about the patron saint of Boho chic, Kate Hudson, and I set out to find gear that can be mixed and matched with just about anything in your closet from a flirty little black dress to edgy dark rinse skinny jeans.
Here’s what I found:
… a small pouch-like bag with tribal prints or designs like the Matthew Williamson beaded shoulder bag, $900.
… oversized jewelry with faceted gems like the Indian Road Trip cuff, $64, and matching ring, $38.
… a silky tunic like the Twelfth St. By Cynthia Vincent purple floral embroidered fringe tunic, $89.99, paired with an uber flare — but not quite bell bottom — jean like the AE midnight extreme flare jeans, $49.50.
… a pair of sky-high wedges or suede boots … how about both, like the Nine West Yoursocute boots, $169, in cognac brown. They’re a pick of celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and were featured on vogue.tv, or elevate your style with a fringe stiletto like the metallic Marciano “Lara” sandal, $279.95.
… a floral hair accessory like this Dominique Duval pearl daisy bobbi stick, $65 each.
Tips:
- Stay true to your own style by incorporating a few Bohemian-inspired pieces.
- Avoid looking outdated. Unless your name is Soleil Moon Beam and your mom finds it necessary to regale you of stories of your birth in the back of a volkswagon bus, don’t do Boho head-to-toe.
- Do borrow your mom’s vintage 3-strand turquoise and coral-beaded necklace with your white V-neck t-shirt. Vintage pieces are, oh so chic.
- Find a sleek pair of suede jeans to wear in place of your tried-and-true denim ones.
- Accessorize with floral embellishments, tribal prints, and peace sign emblems.
