Summer classes have ended and my first semester as a grad student went fabulous. I promise I have no plans on regaling you of all I’ve learned in my sartorial classes, but I have a haute list from one of my fashion professors that’s just too cool to keep to myself; it’s a list of fashionable clothing named for famous people, some obvious and some not so. Here goes, and I have started it off with one of my own, the Birkin bag:

Jane Birkin – Hermès Birkin bag

Amelia Bloomer – Bloomers
Earl of Chesterfield – Chesterfield jacket
Dwight D. Elsenhower – Elsenhower jacket
Mao Tse Tung – Mao jacket
Jawaharlal Nehru – Nehru jacket
Madame de Pompadour – Pompadour (hairstyle)
Nancy Reagan – Reagan plastics (costume jewelry)

Duke of Wellington – Wellington boots (wellies)

Earl of Cardigan – Cardigan sweater
Duke of Windsor – Windsor knot (tie)
Duke of Norfolk – Norfolk jacket
Nelson Mandela – Madiba smart (shirt)
