Global — What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with an eco chic pair of shoes. I recently attended the spring 2012 launch of Naya Shoes at Nordstrom in San Franicisco. The well crafted shoes are fashioned from natural and recycled materials including cork and straw in a lovely color palette running the gamut from earthy hues like rustic brown and taupe to vibrant shades in yellow and blue.

The spring 2012 launch event started in the Nordstrom Café Bistro and moved into the shoe department, where Naya exhibited their collection, featuring a cornucopia of styles from wedges to gladiators. Two styles, among a sea of lovely shoes, caught my eye; the "Eternal" wedge from the "Color My World" Collection and the "Palomi" gladiator sandals from the "Twist and Shout" collection. With the summer months coming soon, I thought about the lovely manis and pedis I would get and opted for the "Palomi" gladiator, which I have worn every day since — it's like walking barefoot!
Not only are Naya Shoes aesthetically appealing they leave a softer print on the environment as well, with styles made with vegetable-tanned leather uppers and linings, footbeds constructed with cork, and even the packaging is environmentally friendly. The shoe boxes are 80% recycled paper pulp with soy-based inks and water-based glue.

Plant-It 2020: To celebrate Earth Day 2012, Naya is partnering with Nordstrom by planting 5,000 in support of Plant-It 2020, a national non-profit organization fondued by John Denver. The companies will plant a tree for every pair of Naya shoes purchase at Nordstrom or on Nordstrom.com from March 30 to Earth Day on April 22! Naya will mark it's two-year anniversary with the tree planting campaign on Earth Day. By the completion of this year, the Naya brand will have planted a total of 15,000 trees with Plant-It 2020.
