Red Carpet: 2008 Emmys, Who Was Chic and Who Shocked?

September 20081447Views

Chic and not-so-chic celebs walked the red carpet for the 2008 Emmys. There were some awe inspiring looks that were ultra fab, while others left us wondering why. Here’s my picks for the chic and the shocking.

Pale Palettes: Marcia Cross was radiant in an Elie Saab pale peach and sage ballerina-esque cocktail gown fashioned from silk tulle with a floral lace-embellished bodice. Kiera Sedgwick was elegant, but the neckline of her L’Wren Scott strappy cocktail dress was a bit peculiar. It appeared that the jeweled appliques were grasping her cleavage.

Ruffled and Strapless: Brooke Shields looked amazing in her hot pink Badgley Mischka floor-length strapless gown, it seemed to soften her statuesque frame. Debra Messing, who normally rocks the red carpet, was unamazing in her Monique Lhuillier gauzy gown. It was gorge on the spring runway, not so much here — she kind of looks preggers. Maybe her stylist Rachel Zoe was too busy with her new Bravo! reality show to hook up her look.

One Shoulder: Nice shoulders ladies, but Venessa Williams edges this one out. Vanessa’s fishtail dress exudes old Holywood glam and the shimmery shoulder strap that runs down the dress adds on contemporary flair. Christina Applegate glows in her one shoulder gown but the oversized bow on the hip that extends down into a train is a bit mystifying — not so attractive to have such a large embellishment on the hip or derrier.

Little Black Dress: There’s no ugly Betty in this cocktail length bubble dress. America Ferrera is the epitome of chic in a vintage Bob Mackie strapless ruched and layered dress. Her two-tone pumps and metallic kiss-lock clutch are superb. then there’s Lauren Conrad, who loves to flaunt her California tan in strapless dresses, but this look is so uninspiring on her. And, what’s with the cleavage squeeze?

Hot Hues: Both of these “Desperate Housewives” opted for colors that are hot this season, but Teri Hatcher‘s star was brighter as she wore a sunshine yellow gown trimmed in ruffles — very figure flattering. Nicolette Sheridan‘s royal purple gown looked like something from an ’80s prom.

Shimmer Shimmer: Sandra Oh was a doll in a vintage sequin Chanel gown with a lace bodice, ribbon tie waist, and skirt with tiers of ruffles — oh so chic. At first glance I loved Heidi Klum in this shimmery Armani Privé pewter grecian-inspired gown, but the one shoulder cape look through me off. Love the ring, though!

Big Bows: J’adore Eva Longoria Parker in her Marchesa flapper-inspired fringe dress. The beaded bow is so graceful on her petite from — definitely a glamour girl. On the other hand, Kris Jenner (matriarch of the Kardashian brood) was ghastly in a long white dress with a shoddy bow that matched her uber black mane.
