GLOBAL — During February, the unofficial month of love, we expect to see a few chick flicks hit the big screen; something with just the right amount of heart-tugging, tear-jerker, lovey-dovey sentiment that makes us all warm and tingly inside. But when it's a film from writer/producer Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook), our expectations are exceptionally high – we want to be woo'd! I recently screened his latest film Safe Haven starring Julianne Hough (Footloose) as a woman running from her past and Josh Duhamel (New Year's Eve) a storekeep in a small southern coastal town who falls hopelessly in love with her. Here are 5 reasons I think this film is a must-watch for Valentine's Day.
1. Your first date was better.
Katie (Julianne Hough) and Alex (Josh Duhamel) go canoeing on their first date. While chatting it up about how much he loved his wife who died of cancer, it begins to downpour rain. Romantic, right?
2. Single dads can be hot too.
Alex has two adorable kids who quickly fall for Katie. He's hot, his kids are cute, and they don't think she's the wicked stepmother. What could be better than that?
3. Cupid can make miracles.
Katie shows up to town with little more than the clothes on her back. She moves into a shack in the woods, works at a local fish and chips dive, and rides to town on an old bike Alex gave her. All this and he's still head-over-heels!
4. Your ex isn't that crazy.
Katie's past comes back to haunt her when her abusive, alcoholic husband shows up to confront her with a bottle of liquor and a lighter.
5. Believing in second chances.
Katie, who's on the run from her past and a bad relationship, buys a bus ticket to anywhere USA and meets prince charming. Who doesn't deserve a second chance at love.
