Movie Brief: Bridget Jones’s Baby

Funniest film of the year and McDreamy made it happen

Renée Zellweger returns as our favorite zany Brit Bridget Jones. She’s entertained us in two previous films where she’s intertwined in a love triangle. Now she’s in another mix, this time it involves two men and a baby! Here’s how the romantic comedy measures up on my radar rating.

Plot: Bridget Jones is single again and not surprisingly, still pining for Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Only this time he is married, but on the verge of divorce. In the midst of figuring out her feelings for Mark, Jones fall for and sleeps with Jack (Patric Dempsey), an American millionaire and entrepreneur. After intimate encounters with each of the men, Jones finds herself pregnant and it is a race against time to determine who is the baby’s father.

Hilariously funny, heartwarmingly charming, and hands down the funniest film of the year.

Engagement: Seldom do you find a sequel that rivals the goodness of the original, but this third installment of the “Bridget Jones” franchise was hilarious and charming. Dempsey a.k.a. McDreamy, with his disarming good looks, brought something special to his role. The chemistry amongst all the characters was right on point. The quick-witted banter will keep you in laughter as much as the slapstick antics, like a scene where the two men join forces to carry the pregnant (and heavy) Bridget to the hospital after she goes into labor. Just as lovable as the storyline is the must-have soundtrack, featuring amazing hits from artists such as Rihanna, Dionne Warwick, and the Temptations. There’s even a cameo from singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, who sings his hit “Thinking Out Loud.”

Style: Jones’s quirky style is always fun and very much in line with the character. One look exceptionally befitting her character’s whimsical demeanor is a blue fuzzy coat resembling the fur of Cookie Monster. But there are some chic looks as well like a monochromatic white outfit featuring a sweater and jeans that she sports when she first meets Jack.
