NEW YORK — My latest mission took me behind the scenes of the Elizabeth and James Fall 2014 Collection, where the look was modernistic with simple lines, neutral hues, and full silhouettes. It was an eclectic mix featuring wide-leg trousers, below-the-knee full skirts, bulky sweaters, and chunky loafers. Courtesy of Sephora makeup artist Erik Soto, the makeup was a delicate complement to the heavy looks with radiant skin, flushed cheeks and nude lips. To finish the beauty aesthetic, Formula X manicurist Dida created clean, dark and neutral nails. Here’s what was in Erik and Dida’s beauty arsenal to create the looks.
Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, $65.
Beauty Blender, $19.95.
Josie MaranArgan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil, $28.
Kat Von D Rehab Priming Elixir, $30.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, $35.
Make Up For Ever Face & Body Liquid Makeup, $40.
Per-fekt Brow Perfection Gel in Nude, $22.
TARTE Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Blissful, $26.
Pro Tip: To create a “lit from within” flush, apply blush with a sponge for a second-skin effect, followed by a light-reflecting cream on the cheekbones for definition.
Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette, #6.
Lancôme Définicils High Definition in Brown, $27.50.
Sephora Collection Pro Crease Brush #10, $22.
Sephora Collection Pro Visionary Lash Fan Brush #220, $18.
Tip: To soften an overall beauty look, opt for brown mascara instead of black and gently apply using a fan brush starting at the roots and wisp outward to create a romantic lash.
Tip: For a perfectly nude lip, outline lips using a concealer instead of a lip liner to mattify skin and highlight curves of the lips in a natural way.
Tip: For a long-lasting and lustrous nail, be sure to prime the nail with both cleanser and base coat.
