Tom Cruise is back as Jack Reacher for a seemingly impossible mission
If you love graphic fight scenes and a lot of running around with little understanding of why—then you’ll want to see the action flick “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” starring Tom Cruise as a former military police officer, who becomes embroiled in a cover up.
Plot: Jack Reacher ( Tom Cruise) is on his way to Washington DC to meet Major Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders) and thank her for her assistance, only to find she has been arrested for treason and is jailed awaiting court-martial. Determined to help her, he takes matters into his own hands and gets dragged into a government conspiracy while also uncovering a secret from his past that could potentially change his life.
While full of action-packed scenes, the plot dragged on and had a predictable ending.
Engagement: There is an abundance of violence in this film with very little depth to the story. Reacher and Turner are supposed to be attracted to one another but the actors have no chemistry and the dialogue is stilted, so it doesn’t work. Reacher’s connection with daughter Samantha Dayton (Danika Yarosh) is a different story. She is a 15-year-old with spunk and sarcasm. She shines in this movie and has great chemistry with Reacher. Another bright spot is Captain Espin (Aldis Hodge). Espin is good in his role of a military police officer. While full of action-packed scenes, the plot dragged on and had a predictable ending.
Style: We’re dealing with military police, government officials and, of course, Jack Reacher. There’s a nod to military-inspired style, but the aesthetic is just enough to support the film and its characters in their everyday lives and activities. Nothing head-turning.
