GLOBAL — One of the most anticipated films of the summer X-Men: Days of Future Past hits the big screen today starring Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Lawrence. JLaw reprises her role as the mutant Mystique, and as usual, she’s a force to reckon with and there’s no missing her – she has electric blue skin, fiery red hair, and yellow-green eyes.
I may not be a comic book fan, but I can’t help but love the X-Men franchise with Mystique being one of my favorite mutants – a close second to Wolverine. In the sixth installment of the Marvel comic adapted films, Wolverine goes back in time to reunite Xavier and Magneto and prevent Mystique from a dastardly deed that leads to the extermination of mutants in the distant future.
It’s the 1970s – Xavier is distraught, Magneto is imprisoned, and Mystique is on the hunt for an anthropologist determined to rid the world of mutants. It’s a race against time to alter events of the past that are destined to have a deadly outcome.
When Lawrence was selected to play the young Mystique in X-Men: First Class, I doubted her ability to come across believable as a comic book adapted character, but she is the perfect Mystique, even better than Rebecca Romijn. There’s an energy and feistiness she brings to the complex character. The sight of Mystique evokes instant fear, yet Jennifer Lawrence brings a vulnerability to the character that makes her sympathetic and likable.
There’s so many reasons to put this film on your weekend watch list and JLaw’s acting is definitely one of them!
