Being commissioned to design shoes for the film Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, the films Director and writer, Blahnik told The Daily Telegraph, “When the producers called, I dropped everything. When I was a boy, my mother read a Marie Antoinette biography, and I have read Antonia Fraser’s version. I can’t wait to see it. They said ‘make them sexy’, but I wanted to do something very academic. I thought that we wouldn’t even see the stupid shoes on her feet but, apparently, Kirsten Dunst goes shopping and there the shoes are…They tell me they are in a big shot.”
