Manolo Blahnik Steps Onto the Big Screen In Marie Antoinette

“You can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and my watch, but don’t take my Manolo Blahniks.” When Carrie Bradshaw of HBO’s Sex and the City made this outcry after being robbed for her shoes, Manolo Blahnik’s, already known among trendsetters, became a household name with chic and hip fashion enthusiasts.

With whimsical yet elaborate designs, Manolo Blahniks have stepped onto the big screen. Being commissioned to design shoes for the film Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, the films Director and writer, Blahnik told The Daily Telegraph, “When the producers called, I dropped everything. When I was a boy, my mother read a Marie Antoinette biography, and I have read Antonia Fraser’s version. I can’t wait to see it. They said ‘make them sexy’, but I wanted to do something very academic. I thought that we wouldn’t even see the stupid shoes on her feet but, apparently, Kirsten Dunst goes shopping and there the shoes are…They tell me they are in a big shot.”

Manolo Blahnik shoes are the epitome of high style and elegance. Blahnik’s designs for the film are characteristic of the opulence of French royalty during the period and are marked by fanciful ribbons, rosettes, embroidery, and jewels.
