Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week opened today in New York before a crowd of celebrities and socialites. The week-long parade of haute couture kicked-off with The Heart Truth show, a collection of red dresses by well-known designers worn by celebrities in recognition of the Red Dress project to heighten awareness of heart disease among women.
Among the many celebrities who participated in The Heart Truth show were actress Kim Catrall (Sex and the City) in Carolina Herrera, model Alek Wek in Ellen Tracy (above, photo Fashion Wire Daily/Gruber) and Rachael Ray (30-minute meals) in Donna Karan.
After The Heart Truth show the first group of designers revealed pieces from their Fall 2007 collections including Akiko Ogawa, BCBG Max Azria and Nicole Miller (above, photo Associated Press/Chernin). The fashion shows will continue throughout the week, concluding Feb. 9 with designers such as Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren and Charles Nolan and then Mercedes-Benz Fashion week moves on to Los Angeles (March 18-22) and Miami (July 13-17).
