Joyful Noise opened today co-starring Queen Latifah (Hairspray) and Dolly Parton (Steel Magnolias). I never imagined there would be a film that would have the queen of hip hop sharing the big screen with the queen of country.
In this musical film, a small town southern church's choir has big dreams to compete in a major choir competition, but after many losses it's questioned if they have what it takes. Unforseen circumstance catapults Vi Rose (Queen Latifah) into the choir director position at the dismay of G.G. (Dolly Parton), who believes she is better suited for the role.
If you are not won over by some of the humorous and inspirational moments in the movie, as well as a few cliched story lines like teen puppy love between Vi Rose's talented daughter Olivia (Keke Palmer) and G.G.'s rebellious grandson Randy (Jeremy Jordan), you will definitely enjoy the music, many of which were adpated from contempoorary pop hits including "Man In the Mirror," originally performed by the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
