She’s Out of My League isn’t riddled with A-list comedic names such as Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Owen Wilson, but it delivers the laughs — the kind that will have you rolling in the isles. Minus a well-known ensemble cast, it’s the male version of “He’s Just Not That Into You.” Although the premise is not a new one, it has all the ingredients that make it a recipe for funny; a nerdy leading man, a beautiful conquest, three rowdy sidekicks, and a snarky BFF.
In this film, a not-so-hot boy meets a to-die-for girl and from there mayhem ensues. Instantly, we know how it’s going to end; boy meets girl, girl falls for boy, boy screws up, girl gets mad, and with a twist of “fate” they are reunited just in time to confess their love and live happily ever after. But, who cares about predictability here, because this film is a riot. Throughout the film you will find yourself routing for the underdog and liking the pretty girl.
The self explainatory film title leaves very little mystery as to what takes place in this film. When Kirk (Jay Baruchel), a nerdy TSA agent at Pittsburg airport helps a beautiful passenger, Molly (Alice Eve), make it through the gate and pass his perverted supervisor, she finds his chivalry charming and he finds her beauty unapproachable. After she leaves her phone at the gate, voilà, they now have a way to reconnect.
But between Kirk’s meddlesome buddies, who think he doesn’t have a chance at dating a girl who they consider a “10” and Molly’s pessimistic gal pal who thinks she can do better, this film is a rollercoaster ride to delirium. It‘s so good, it’s worth a second ride!
