GLOBAL — Over the past 50 years and 23 films, James Bond a.k.a. 007, has had many faces, from the dashing and debonair Sean Connery to the brash and brooding Daniel Craig. Bond has tackled many missions all while conquering villains, charming ladies, and saving humanity from emminent destruction, unbeknown to them, of course.
Admittedly, I’ve only recently become a fan of the Bond series and have only seen a few films, but after watching the latest installment of the action-packed flick Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, I’m addicted. This is the third time Craig has taken on the role of the sleek British spy and although Connery is my all-time favorite Bond, I can’t help but love Craig in “Skyfall.”
It’s fresh, it’s hot, it’s new! Right down to Adele‘s “Skyfall” theme song. This film is like a rebirth of Bond with a little back story for us Bond novices. We learn more about his spy team: M, the hard-nosed boss (Judi Dench); Q, the high-tech gadget geek (Ben Whishaw); and Miss Moneypenny (Naomi Harris), a fellow MI6 spy who definitely has a Bond crush, but who could blame her.
Faced with a psychotic ex-MI6 spy (Javier Bardem) who’s vowed vengeance on M, Bond becomes embroiled in a seek and destroy mission. What I like most is the vulnerability of the normally self-assured sleuth. He can be weakened, he can die, he can even harbor self doubt.
But, what’s not to like about this film? If the villain’s sinister plot isn’t enough to keep you glued to the edge of your seat, then the high-octane action scenes are sure to do it. Oh, let’s not forget the chic styling and then of course there’s Craig’s taut physique too, which is the ultimate in eye candy. J’adore!
