Over-the-moon and head-over-heels never felt so bad, epecially if the target of your affections is your former law school crush and current fiancé to your BFF. Sounds complicated doesn’t it?
Well that’s just what happens in the Emily Giffin chick lit turned romantic comedy Something Borrowed starring Kate Hudson (Bride Wars, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days) and Ginnifer Goodwin (He’s Just Not That Into You, Walk the Line). Hudson plays Darcy, a popular, confident girl who seems to always get what she wants. Goodwin plays Rachel, Darcy’s mild-mannered, people-pleasing best friend since childhood.
Rachel complacently stands in Darcy’s shadow, but reality really hits when Darcy throws Rachel a surprise birthday party, where as usual, Darcy takes center-stage. But as the evening goes on and after a series of events, Rachel takes something else. Or shall I say borrows?
Admittedly, this film is predictable, but there are moments and a few twists that not only gets you thinking, but makes you question just who needs the sympathy; the sweet, do-good BFF and the doting fiancé who never had a chance to realize their feelings for each other, or the popular, self-serving BFF who is confronted with betrayal from her girl and her man. Even the hopeless romantic in me waivered from time-to-time.
Here are my top 3 reasons this movie is a must-see:
- John Krasinski, is hilarious as Ethan, the up-in-your-business guy BFF to Rachel.
- Colin Egglesfield as Dex, the love-confused fiancé, is hot, hot, hot!
- Cliched love story that melts your heart, with a slightly unexpected ending.
