Liam Neeson returns as retired CIA operative Brian Mills in Taken 2. In the first version of this action-packed thriller, Mills is on a mission to rescue his kidnapped daughter who was put on market in a human trafficking ring when she was nabbed in Paris.
In this vengeance sequel, Mills finds himself on a similar mission in Instanbul, Turkey where him, his daughter (Maggie Grace) and ex-wife (Famke Janssen), find themselves prey to the father of one of the many men Mills killed while on a quest to save his daughter in Europe. This time around, there’s no pesky uber rich stepfather to get in the way, as the film kicks off explaining his absence with a pending divorce and alluding to a probable reuniting of Mills and his estranged ex-wife Lenore.
There were many similarities between the two films, right down to the dialogue. What maintains the movie’s watchability is the high-octane action through the winding streets of Instanbul when Mill’s daughter Kim, gets to return the favor and rescue her father and assist in the rescuing of her mother.
Although the film is predictable, it’s definitely an attention-getter with action scenes that will have you on the edge of your seat.
