Global — The Avengers, the much anticipated action flick to hit the big screen today, featuring characters from a few Marvel comic favorites including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is just the film to kick off the summer season of blockbusters.

Besides all the must-see eyecandy, there's tons of reasons this film should be on your radar, from the sharp-witted writing to the over-the-top action scenes that on occasion will make you jump in your seat. Before screening this film earlier this week, I watched Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor to refreshen my knowledge on the characters. Admittedly, I have never been a comic book reader, but no need. Those of us who may not be Marvel savvy will love this film anyway. Afterall, it has all the ingredients of a must-see; a talented cast, well-written script, and good direction.

Speaking of direction, if you haven't already heard, the film is written and directed by none other than Joss Whedon, who was the writer for "The Cabin in the Woods." He is also the creator of the two much-loved TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel." Yes, looks like he has the midas touch, doesn't it?
Another reason I enjoyed this film was the chemistry among the characters. Before watching the film, I couldn't help but wonder: How in the world do you bring together larger than life superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor? Who will be the star? Who will save the world? Well the obvious answer, they all do. But it takes team work, and this team woked quite well together!

Robert Downey Jr. as the hilariously sarcastic "billionaire playboy" Tony Stark with a genius IQ has great comedic timing with his dry sense of humor, while Chris Evans, the exact opposite, is the all American hero who keeps them all on track. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, the Hulk, was surprisingly right on. I had my doubts, but after his first two scenes, I was sold on his ability to play a sensitive yet angry scientist, whose experiment went way wrong. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the God from another planet, who yields a magical hammer, is just the muscle needed to tame the Hulk. Then there's Scarlett Johansson as Natashia Romanoff, the former stealth Russian spy, Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, the expert archer Hawkeye, who are the perfect supporting superheroes.

The plot is simple. Thor's demented, evil brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) returns from being presumedly dead on their home planet Asgard, to wreak havoc on unsuspecting earthlings he believes need to be dictated. But little does he know, America has a few warriors of their own; a metallic man who can zip through the sky like a rocket, a soldier with superhuman strength, and a green giant that is indestructable. To find out how they thwart his evil plans, you must catch that on the big screen. Trust me, you won't be sorry!
