GLOBAL — The holidays are the busiest time of the year for family gatherings, office parties, and various social affairs. With everyone in a festive mood, it is the perfect time to try out daring and on trend makeup looks. Whether your style is sophisticated, edgy, or glamorous, there is definitely a new look for you to try during the holiday season.
1. The Sophisticate
The holidays bring out the shimmer and shine in makeup. This season, gold is the “it” metallic to rock and a great way to make your eyes pop. Taking a note from Jessica Chastain on the December Vogue cover; start with a gold eyeshadow base on the lid and lower lash line. Blend a bronze color from the outer corner of the eye into the crease such as Half Baked and YDK from the Urban Decay Naked2 palette, $52. To create a more striking look, lightly layer a matte red eyeshadow such as the Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow in Cherry on Top, $13, from the outer corners and into the creases of the eye. This will create a rose gold effect on the eye. Finish off with a light pink lip.
2. The Rocker
A darker and daring eye look for the holidays, inspired by Rihanna on the November Glamour cover, blends brown and black eyeshadows to create an intense and modern take on the smoky eye. To bring out your inner bad girl, sweep on a chocolate brown color over lids and lower lash line. Bracket the outer corners of the eyes with a shimmery obsidian shadow and blend into the upper lid and lower lash line. The new Smashbox Full Exposure Palette, $49, contains all the colors you need to achieve this look. You can either thinly line your eyes with black liquid liner or go bolder by thickening your liner and creating a cat eye. Complete the rocker look with Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow Gold Gleam Nail Color, $20.
3. The Glamazon
For the risk-taking glamour queen, a daring and dark lip color will do the trick this holiday season like Jennifer Lawrence at the Paris premiere of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” Almost anyone can pull off a dark lip color. There’s two ways to achieve dark lips depending on how bold you want to go. For a not so extreme way to do it, use Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Sugar Plum, $22.50. By using the glossy lip treatment, you can achieve the shade you want. Also, it’s sheer so virtually anyone can wear it. For a more dramatic look, top with Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Black Tie, $31. Again, you can determine how dark you want it to be by layering the color. Both the lip treatment and the lipstick look almost black, but don’t let it scare you since the color itself is not that dark on. Finish with dark eyeliner and mascara on both the upper and lower lash line.
Remember, the holidays are the time to take risks with makeup so don’t be afraid to try something new this season!
