On a recent top secret mission to uncover the latest in spring beauty I encountered one of those persuasive cosmetics sales reps at Macy’s. The result — I gave into vanity and splurged on a few beauty must-haves.
It all started quite innocently, honestly, it did. As I prowled through the different bays sniffing out spring scents, I just had to visit the Benefit counter (during a previous mission I scoped out the perfect 3-in-1 foundation stick).
Before I could fully investigate all the goodies that lay before me, Qunicy, the Benefit makeup artist, greeted me with a, “Hello, how are you today?” while guiding me to a makeup chair. Before I knew it my eyes were stunning, matter of fact, so was my face. I was glowing. Quincy used colors I was skeptical about at first but the result was lovely.
First he used Brow Zings, $30, in dark, on my lids and eyebrows. It is an eyebrow duo, a wax to add color and a powder to set the wax. I couldn’t believe how magnificent my normally unruly brows looked, it was if i just had a wax.
Then Play Sticks, $32, in Tic Tac Toe, foundation in a stick, which I already have, was applied sparingly to my face, adding coverage where needed (this is the 3-in-1 I mentioned before).
A beautiful bronzy creaseless cream shadow, $18, in busy signal, was used on the lower half of my eyelid.
Next, Gilded, $18, a gold shimmer shadow pencil was used (this is when I became skeptical) on the lid right below the brow and as a highlighter for my brows. this little pencil carries a lot of punch and was even used on my lips beneath a wine gloss. three uses, one pencil — so worth it!
Then my eyes were lined with the Kohl pencil (absolutely to die for), $16, in onyx. This liner has a smudge tool on the opposite end; quick and easy smoky eyes are just a smudge away.
Making my eyes even more flirty was the Get Bent Lash, $19, in black. This mascara is my new favorite. I’ve always had a difficult time finding one with this much impact. There longer and thicker with more curl.
Last, but not least, Dallas, $28, a bronzer blush, was dusted on the apple of my cheeks, chin and forehead. I got skeptical again. I never use blush! But soon my happy face came back.
Needless to say, this mission was a resounding success and I captured several goodies to fill my Ralph Lauren makeup bag. He had me at hello — it’s a conspiracy I tell you!
Until my next mission …
