Five Brooklyn-Based Women Share their Beauty Secrets
NEW YORK — If you’re old enough to remember the 80’s sitcom The Cosby Show or have been lucky enough to catch the show on TVLand, like moi, then you are very familiar with the second-to-oldest daughter, Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet). She was the ultimate in Boho Chic sporting oversized sweaters and blazers accessorized with gigantic brooches, and oh, let’s not forget those hats! Many were embellished with pins or feathers.
I recently came across a Vogue.com article featuring five Brooklyn-based friends – Elise Peterson, Marjon Carlos, Saada Ahmed, Christina Coleman, and Diane “Shabazz” Varnie – who quite frankly look like they could be Denise’s BFFs. The five girls, who met while working together at an online magazine, talked about sporting natural hair and how to keep it looking and feeling healthy. When it comes to their lips, they all wear eye-popping color and agree on keeping them moisturized – I concur.
Lip treats to try for a super soft, moisturized, and shiny pucker with color include Fresh SugarLlip Treatment in Passion, $22.50, Burt’s Bees Lip Shine in Pucker, $6.99, and Smith’s Minted Rosebud Salve lip balm, $8.
