There’s something about the laid-back style of LA. You know the look – flowing maxi dresses, billowy jumpers, and flirty rompers. Designer Amber Farr of Flynn Skye (named for her daughter), has created a line of breezy fashions perfect for the City of Angels. Inspired by her daughter, who she describes as a “free spirit” on her website, the line has a Boho chic aesthetic with an edgy twist. I recently caught up with Amber to get intel on her line and some of her favorites in fashion, beauty, and entertainment.
“Being chic is all about being you.”
What’s your beauty secret? My go-to secret weapon for great skin is dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer. He is amazing!
What’s your favorite piece from the line? All of my customers love the print pieces but I am a total basics, no-print type of girl. I love the Dressy jumper and the Sequoia mini – in black or merlot. They are both super easy pieces that I can just throw on and rock to any occasion. They are the perfect amount of feminine but can be easily rocked by the tomboy ladies as well.
Your clothes are designed in Venice and Made in LA. How does that process work? When designing each piece, I think about my consumer and what I would want to wear myself. I always want to create pieces that are effortless and will make any woman feel good when she puts them on. All pieces are designed and created in Venice and the production is done in Vernon. Both the creative space and production warehouse are unbelievably perfect for me. I was doing everything in-house (literally, in my house) before I found my new warehouse space, and that is where all the magic happens. I am grateful for it every day!
Describe the Flynn Skye woman. The Flynn Skye woman is anyone who wants to feel beautiful. I always design with the consumer in mind so it’s always all about women like you and your followers.
If you could dress anyone past or present, who would it be and why? That is a tough one. I get most excited when I am walking down the street and see a woman in one of my designs – it’s an unbelievably great feeling. I was just in New York grabbing coffee and saw a woman walk by me in the cafe in a pair of one of my pants. That feeling of surprise and excitement will never get old.
What does being chic mean to you? To me, being chic is all about being you. Everyone who knows me knows that I am a tomboy and can usually be found in a t-shirt and jeans. That is what I feel good in and that is when I feel chic. When I want to feel pretty and extra special I will wear Flynn Skye.
Amber’s Tips For Being Chic
- Take something ordinary and make them look extraordinary.
- Wear something because you want to not because it is a trend.
- Have confidence, that is the ultimate chic – and don’t forget to smile!
