“Taken” Sequel Needs One More Film In the Franchise

Once again, Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is back and having to use his specific set of skills after someone he cares about is taken killed in the “Taken 3” sequel. His ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) has turned up dead in his bed and he’s the prime suspect in her murder. This former spy is no newbie to handling situations like this and immediately goes into full on action to clear his name and find the real culprit. But if I may digress a bit, at the conclusion of “Taken 2,” I thought Bryan and Lenore would be matrimonially reunited, especially since she was having issues in her marriage to the millionaire. This time around, there’s a few twists and turns in the plot that will take you on a roller coaster ride of ‘I know who did it.’ It all seems so obvious, but just as soon as you’re sure whodunnit, you’re back wondering who’s really behind it all. Even Mills gets a bit thrown off.

I was excited to see Neeson return as Mills to expose the bad guys and I love the addition of Forest Whitaker as the pensively astute detective Franck Dotzler tracking his every move. But although this is the third and supposedly final “Taken” film in the franchise, the story line definitely has me wondering if there will be at least one more. I won’t divulge too much and spoil the plot, so let’s  just say the bad guy may or may not have been nixed, and there just might be a new person to join the Mills’ family circle that could get taken, setting off a serious Amber alert. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for at least one more sequel.
