I’m currently in the process of planning my next big mission, a trip to New York City for a Fashion Group International conference. In case you haven’t heard of the organization, it was founded in 1930 to shine a light on fashion, bring an awareness to the industry, and spotlight women’s business roles in fashion. The launch of the organization was spearheaded by a group of sartorially savvy professional women including Edna Woolman Chase, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue and Edith Head, Academy Award-winning costume designer for Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures, who styled a bevy of beautiful starlets including Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday (1953) and Grace Kelly in Rear Window (1954). Currently, the non-profit organization boasts a prestigious roster of members, running the gamut from fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg to editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue Amy Astley.
With the honor to attend a conference of this caliber, you can imagine it’s a mission I’m not taking too lightly. From top to bottom and head to toe, I’m planning my Big Apple excursion with chic precision. It’s two months away and I’m excited to be attending with eponymous designer Angela Johnson, known for her amazingly whimsical ballgowns fashioned from vintage and upcycled T-shirts. We’re booked in The Strand Hotel in Manhattan and now all that is left to do is plan my travel strategy including a little online shopping. Here are a few essentials I’ve spotted that would be perfect for a trip to New York.
Stand Out Luggage
Not just because it looks oh-so-chic, but also because when I’m waiting in line for my luggage, whether I’m right next to the baggage carousel or behind a row of travelers – printed or brightly colored designs will catch my eye immediately. I’m dying to get my hands on the new Jonathan Adler TUMI Pink Luggage Collection, $95-$795. The Chevron pattern and “This Is Mine” accessories are irresistible! Don’t you think?

Travel Beauty Kit
Skincare has always been the epicenter of my beauty regime and this doesn’t have to change because of the strict limit on what can be carried onto the plane. This is the time to indulge on those cute minis at one of my favorite beauty haunts, H20 Plus. Skin can get super dry while in flight and with climate changes. I love a great nighttime moisture system. The H20 Plus 24-hour Moisture Rush Set, $20, includes mini versions of the Eye Oasis Moisture Replenishing Treatment, Night Oasis Oxygenating Energizer Serum, and Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment, which is my favorite moisturizer.
Fashionable Flats
From waiting at the gate and boarding the plane to walking through the city, a comfy pair of flats are a travel must. But just because they are comfortable doesn’t mean they can’t be chic too. On my radar are the Stubbs and Wootton “Kaboom” Fuchsia flats, $450. They would be trés chic with a pair of boyfriend jeans, white v-neck tee, and tailor blazer.
Warming Accessories
It’s no secret how chilly it can get on the plane and how cold it’s been on the East Coast. To combat that spring chill I’m taking a few scarves and hats to accent my ensembles. I am on such a hat high right now, especially berets – they’re so chic that I think I’ll take a couple. I’m so wanting to add this violet purple Sur La Tete Flower Beret, $32, to my accessory arsenal.
Travel Apps
Several apps are on my radar that will keep my travel plans on course from Packing (+TO DO!), an app to make sure I bring along everything I need to Spotify, so I can listen to my favorite tunes in flight. But one app that’s perfect for any mission is the TripAdvisor. It features a directory chock full of listings for restaurants, hotels, even popular attractions – each with user reviews. And, it’s free!
Chicly Yours,
