2014 Golden Globe Predictions and Wishes

January 20141641Views

12-Years-A-Slave-PosterGLOBAL — The 2014 Golden Globe Awards is only hours away and I'm highly anticipating watching not only the red carpet arrivals, but learning who the winners will be. The nominations are in and just about every movie guru has chimed in on who they think and hope will walk away with the gold. So of course, I could not sit on the sidelines without casting my vote. From veteran actor Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips to emerging actress Lupita Nyong'o in 12 Years A Slave, there were myriad movies to put on your must-watch list last year and just as many talented actors and actresses to keep on your radar. But one question remains. Who's going home with the gold? For Best Motion Picture, Drama I predict Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Although I enjoyed the film, I'm wishing for 12 Years A Slave starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender. The film – based on a book from Solomon Northup, a free man who was kidnapped from New York and sold south into slavery – is a raw and emotional account of the incident. The story is compelling and the acting genuine. It's a powerful movie that deserves golden recognition. Check out more of my predictions and wishes below.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama

Sandra Bullock is amazing in this film and considering she spends most of the film acting alone, it goes to show the scope of her talent as an actress.

Prediction: Sandra Bullock
Wish: Sandra Bullock

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama

Tom Hanks is an expert at making you believe he is in fact the character he is playing. It's almost like you can relate with the characters he portrays and that's true for this film as well. You route for him to survive and win in his frightening ordeal.

Prediction: Tom Hanks
Wish: Tom Hanks

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

Leonardo DiCaprio had an amazing year in three hit films including Django, The Great Gatsby, and The Wolf of Wall Street, for which he's nominated in this category. In The Wolf of Wall Street, which is based on a true story, DiCaprio plays a con man who sells penny stocks. His character is eccentric, egotistic, and materialistic – Dicaprio plays it to the hilt.

Prediction: Leonardo DiCaprio
Wish: Leonardo DiCaprio

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Lupita Nyong'o is new to Hollywood, but you wouldn't know it when watching her play a tortured slave girl in 12 Years A Slave. Her character is violently mistreated by the 'master' and you soon find yourself immersed in the character.

Prediction: Jennifer Lawrence
Wish: Lupita Nyong'o

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

Barkhad Abdi is another Hollywood newcomer who radiates on screen. He is one of the bad guys in the film, but at some point you have sympathy for him and the condition that lead to his criminal acts.

Prediction: Bradley Cooper
Wish: Barkhad Abdi

Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama

Kerry Washington plays a powerful Washington D.C. player who fixes the messes that her elite clients often find themselves in. She runs an office filled with loyal 'gladiators' and is having an affair with the president of the United States, but there's a vulnerability to her character that Washington conveys superbly.
