GLOBAL — Fashion icon Audrey Hepburn is one of the most beloved Old Hollywood actresses of all time. Her image can be seen in magazines, books, on postcards and even coffee mugs. Now, more than 20 years after her death, she has been brought back to life via CGI in a TV ad for Dove chocolate in what resembles scenes from her award-winning film Roman Holiday (1953). When I saw her big doe eyes popping off the screen just the other day, for a brief moment all my knowledge of technological advances escaped my mind and I was in awe, thinking to myself, “How in the world did they get Audrey in this commercial.” It was a major shock at first glance, but after reality slowly creeped up on me, shock turned to delight that her essence could be captured so well in a one-minute commercial.
It’s a must-watch if you haven’t had a chance to catch it on the small screen!
I am so glad you wrote this. I have only read negatives about the dove commercial. When I saw it the first time, I almost cried at seeing Audrey again. I am 40. She was before my time, but once I saw her, I loved her. I love the commercial. It makes me miss Audrey so, so much. And it’s so wonderful to see those big beautiful eyes bat again even if for just a brief moment – and not in an old movie, but right now, right here in a modern day Dove commercial – fills me all over again with awe of her. I just love it!
I totally agree, Audrey was amazing!
Still the most lovelest woman ever that was , when God made her he broke yhe mold
I found the commercial to be very pretty, I also thought, wow what a great makeup job! The industry has come along way since the commercial of Christopher Reeve walking.
First time I saw it it was pretty cool, something was different about it,second time I saw it,I was wondering if it was a real woman, mixed with CGI,just saw it again and it was freaky cool..I didn’t know until now that it is CGI.Awesome..I love it,it’s very neat and gives me a feeling I can describe…something close to wondeful!!! -Hector
The ad was done well in my opinion too!
Thanks for letting me know what was up with that commercial. While I haven’t see all of Roman Holiday (yet) and most of A.H.’s career was before I was born, I found the commercial (and A. H.) captivating. Henry Mancini’s “Moon River” was icing on the cake! Simply beautiful. With commercials like this, do we really need T.V. shows?
Couldn’t agree with you more Susan!! I too am young again ♥
I thought it was beautifully and respectfully done. It captured the feel and the spirit of the time. It made me feel happy. Try not to over-analyze.
Thanks for your feedback Chris! I’ve wondered how others feel about CGI being used to bring back Old Hollywood greats. They did something similar for J’adore by Dior perfume with images of Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe.
The special effects were built around a clip from Hepburn’s Academy Award performance in “Roman Holiday”. It is nice to know that the commercial use of her image was approved by her two sons but I personally still found the clip somewhat inappropriate.
Yes, it is actually her and images from past film footage were used to create her CGI character. Amazing design work. Oh the wonders of technology. 🙂
So it really is her….was Googling to find the name of actress who looked so like Audrey Hepburn. Her face…Moon River…and for a few seconds I am young again and love is still full of fantasy.
