Curvy fashionistas have taken the style blogging world by storm, showcasing their curves in chic ensembles from leading plus-size fashion retailers such as Eloquii, Lane Bryant, and Monif C. One of these rising stars, Crystal Coons, recently covered Full Figure Fashion Week (FFFW) for City Chic, an online boutique that carries a modern line of plus fashions. Crystal shares her love for style and jet-setting coast to coast (she’s based in Arizona) on her blog Sometimes Glam. I caught up with her between trips to LA and New York, to get intel on her style faves.

What inspired you to launch Sometimes Glam? I’m all about elevating your ordinary and encouraging women to create glamorous moments in their own lives. It’s amazing what the perfect outfit can do. Sometimes Glam was born from that – I hope to inspire women to find their own personal style and go after the life they want!

What does being chic mean to you? From a sartorial standpoint, I think a classic and neutral-colored wardrobe filled with garments that fit perfectly is the epitome of chic. There’s nothing I love more than a white skinny jean, a black sweater and a Burberry trench coat paired with barely-there leopard print heels. Beyond fashion, I firmly believe that chicness stems from kindness. Caring for those around you and having compassion is the ultimate in chic. You can nail the look all you want, but without kindness, it will never work.

Have there been any challenges starting a new blog? So far, I think the biggest challenge has been just the amount of work it takes. We shoot 4-5 days a week and not every look makes it into the blog. Then we do two videos per week for YouTube. Add on top of that editing time for the video and writing time for the blog and the hours really add up. But it’s a labor of love and I adore every second of it.

Crystal’s Five Tips

  1. Dark wash jeans are your best friend.
  2. The right shape wear can take a dress from drab to fab.
  3. Elongate your legs with nude pointed toe heels.
  4. Red lipstick is nonnegotiable.
  5. When it doubt, cinch your waist with a belt.
