It can’t be possible, it just can’t; it had to be a reflection from my dimly lit vanity mirror or a mirage (you know that tricky gloss-over on the road that makes you think it’s raining).

These are the half minded ramblings that went through my head when on Black Friday, of all days, I discovered a gray hair, (wait, let’s make that a silver hair, I like silver). There it sat, like a needle in a hay stack, menacing, taunting me, a symbol that father time was not only at my back door, but he had the nerve to knock too.

How could this be, in our 20s, 30s even — that’s not the time for grays, is it? Well, after talking to mommy I had a rude awaking, every woman in my family grayed early; grandmother in her early 30s and mom in her 20s. Of all the wonderful genes I could have inherited from these beautifully stylish women like my mom’s no fuss, doesn’t have to work out, size 4 body or grandmother’s lavishly long eyelashes, it had to be early graying that I would unwillingly become heir to. I know it works for Anderson Cooper, but after all, he’s a guy and we know the rules for us are just a bit different.

By sheer luck — or maybe Nefertiti heard my cry from her resting place in the Valley of the Kings, or possibly the will of one of the God’s on Olympus, like Aphrodite (or maybe because I was watching E! News) — I stumbled on something I will definitely give a try next time one of those evil, age-divulging culprits pops up (I quickly yanked that one out).

Enough of my grumbling, here’s the good news, thanks to Bumble and bumble’s new hair powders, we can temporarily mask those silvery strands — if Kate Blanchett (according to E! News) trusts her golden locks to these magical powders then I can give it a try on my raven ones. According to the Bumble and bumble Web site, “Hair powders add sexy va-va voom, extend the life of a blow-dry by absorbing excess oil and provide a dry texture that keeps pins and clips from slipping.”They come in white, blondish, red, brown and black — just what our over-exposed roots need.
