GLOBAL — Fans rejoiced when “The Carrie Diaries,” the prequel to “Sex and the City” came back on the air for its second season October 25th. From the debut of Samantha Jones to Carrie’s bustling life in 1984 Manhattan, followers of the franchise have already spotted similarities between the two shows and we’ve picked our top three.

1. New York City

The bustling city of New York sets the tone for both “The Carrie Diaries” and “Sex and the City.” The first season of TCD took place in both Connecticut and New York, while this season has been more focused on the latter. Staples in Manhattan culture during 1984 such as Andy Warhol, underground rock ‘n roll clubs, and upscale department stores – are all featured this season. Some of the Big Apple essentials on SATC were Manolo Blahnik shoes, Central Park, and hotspots where the BFFs partied the night away. It’s no wonder New York plays a significant role in both shows, after all, it’s a thriving city and Carrie Bradshaw’s first love.

2. Carrie’s Style

TCD may feature a much younger Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb, Sarah Jessica Parker) from the early 80s, however, if you watch closely you can see the foundation of Bradshaw’s iconic style. The second season we see Carrie donning her first Fendi Baguette, even though Silvia Venturini Fendi didn’t introduce the Baguette bag until 1997. She also shows off a variety of distinct accessories, echoing looks from SATC including statement necklaces, killer heels, and bold belts.

3. Samantha’s Moxy

Younger, a little more naive, and a lot less established – Samantha Jones (Lindsey Gort, Kim Cattrall) has finally arrived in teenage Carrie’s life. She may be a twenty-something in “The Carrie Diaries,” but Samantha holds the same sexy style, matter-of-fact attitude, and openness towards sex. The young Samantha is still figuring out life, which is a bit on the Boho side, but she exudes the signature self-confidence of the forty-something Samantha. Kudos to actress Lindsey Gort for playing young Samantha and her uncanny channeling of Kim Cattrall’s mannerisms. Her penchant for mixing things up and delivering fresh and direct advice to Carrie is consistent in both shows.

We can’t wait for tonight’s show, which is sure to be chock full of chic fashions, BFF drama, and beautiful shots of New York City.
