Can Anna Wintour Revive Condé Nast’s Faltering Magazines?

NEW YORK — Last month it was announced that Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and editorial director of Teen Vogue was appointed the artistic director for Condé Nast, apparently a role that was created specifcally for her. When I first heard the news, I didn't think much of it, considering she's arguably the most famous (or shall I say infamous) magazine editor, and highly revered for the evolution of Vogue during her tenor. So when I recently spied an article on nymag.com posing the question "Can Anna Wintour Save Lucky Magazine?," I instantly became intrigued.

Frankly, I didn't know that Lucky was in trouble. According to the article, the magazine has been losing steam, reporting a 20 percent decline in ad pages and 30 percent drop in newsstand sales for 2012. It also mentioned how Lucky magazine has made a push towards digital and e-commerce, which explains their eagerness to affiliate with bloggers via their online style collective and blogger conferences held on the East and West Coasts.

With these latest developments it's got me pondering whether Wintour's new role will strengthen the Condé Nast brand of magazines or simply weaken one of their strongest publications, Vogue. After all, she is only one woman. but considering the one woman is Anna Wintour, that may be enough, or will it?
