Which Celebs Would Attend 1920’s Gatsby Soiree?

GLOBAL — Secret speakeasies filled with flirty flappers dressed in fringed frocks, sporting coifed bobs, and sipping spiked cocktails would have been the theme of the party during the roaring twenties. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," the cautionary tale of decadence and indulgence featured party scenes thrown by the enigmatic Jay Gatsby that were the epicenter of the elite social set that reigned during the era. Baz Luhrmann's adaption of the classic novel depicted the party scene as an opulent spectacle, attended by the crème de la crème. Party-goers rhythmically danced to the jazzy tunes as confetti fluttered to the ground; a site to behold and definitely a fête not to be missed.

Today when we think of lavish parties we envision the rich and famous attending, from Hollywood glitterati and Manhattan socialites to champion athletes such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Olivia Palermo, and LeBron James. Had the fictional Jay Gatsby really existed and thrown one of his swanky soirees in the 1920s, the VIP guest list would have been just as posh; running the gamut from actress Louise Brooks and dancer Josephine Baker to baseball legend Babe Ruth, tennis great Bill Tilden, even Fitzgerald himself and his wife Zelda. When he wrote "The Great Gatsby," it was rumored that he was inspired by his visits to Long Island's North Shore and parties he attended. One can only imagine how luxe they were.
